Getting a senior dog ready for grooming
Older dogs often have stiff joints, weaker hearing or eyesight, and less patience for long sessions. The goal shifts from a perfect groom to a comfortable one.
Make it physically easier
- Use a non-slip mat everywhere: floor, table and tub. Slipping is scary and can hurt sore joints.
- Offer breaks to sit or lie down. Not every step needs to be done standing.
- Ask your groomer about shorter "express" or split appointments.
Watch for pain, not "bad behavior"
- A dog that suddenly resists paw or hip handling may be in pain. That is a reason to see your vet before practicing more.
- Keep nail trims frequent and small. Long nails change how a dog stands and walks.
